Advertising Agencies Hit By Hollywood Strike

Since the Hollywood writers are on strike, some of the worlds Top TV shows have already been forced out of production, and many others have just a few episodes left. TV audiences and are finding other things to do rather than tuning in their televisions to watch reruns of old programs or D rate programs.

With dull and boring reruns, reality TV shows and foreign imports starting to dominate the TV channels. In the short term, there are concerns that the television networks and advertising agencies will not be able to deliver on their audience commitments they promised the advertisers in their media schedules. Since many advertising agencies sell spots (TV Commercials) on promised viewership they simply are not able to deliver the audience that they promised.

Advertising agencies and advertisers are already looking for alternatives such as cable and Sky. Some advertisers are increasing frequency of the their commercials trying to capture the audience levels they were once hitting before the strike started.

The short term implications of this it that advertisers are having to pay higher cost-per-thousands than they did previously as the audiences are simply not available.

The long-term implications of that are unclear, though if the strike does drags on , major advertisers may decide to seek non-broadcast alternatives.

Most industry observers think the walkout could last for months so advertising agencies could be hit hard.
